Gracie Barra Salt Lake City is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) school conveniently located in South Salt Lake, Utah, serving nearby communities like Salt Lake, South Salt Lake, West Valley City, Taylorsville, Murray, Holladay and surrounding areas. As part of Gracie Barra, one of the world’s largest BJJ organizations, we offer a welcoming environment for all ages and skill levels.
Our experienced and certified instructors are passionate about sharing their knowledge and helping you achieve your goals. We even have specific programs designed for children as young as 4-5 years old and women’s only classes.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu passion
In March 2015, Andrea Warner sought a new challenge and exercise and joined a local Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) school. Despite the intimidating nature of BJJ for some women, Andrea was undeterred and quickly fell in love with the sport.

Gracie Barra, a new dream
After some time Andrea found a Gracie Barra school near her and fell in love. The Gracie Barra method was so well structured, focused on practical self-defense techniques for everyday life. The programs make it easy for students to track their progress and improvement. This was so different from any other school she had tried.

It wasn’t long before Andrea’s passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu grew into a dream of having her school. She envisioned a clean and welcoming BJJ school in Salt Lake City that would inspire and motivate kids, men, and women to learn both BJJ and self-defense classes.

Gracie Barra Salt Lake City, the beginning
Competing since a while belt, Andrea became Coach Andrea when she got her blue belt. After finding the best location so people could discover BJJ classes near them, she got the perfect Head Professor for Gracie Barra Salt Lake City, who is Professor Rodrigo.

Jiu-Jitsu for Everyone in Salt Lake City
Gracie Barra Salt Lake City was inaugurated in November 2019, bringing the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school in Salt Lake City and surrondings areas like Murray, West Valley City, Holladay, Taylorsville, Millcreek and others. The school grew rapidly, offering BJJ classes for kids and adults of all levels, from beginners to advanced. GBSLC also offers BJJ classes for women only so women can learn self-defense and encourage more female participation in the sport.
What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is by far the best martial art for self defense purposes. Based on leverage, Jiu-Jitsu teaches grappling techniques to obtain control over an opponent or aggressor. The “Gentle Art” focuses on immobilizing and applying submissions by attacking the joints and neck.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches a wide variety of techniques. Often compared to a game of human chess, BJJ will require you to utilize your entire body as well as your mind to gain dominance over your training partners. No matter your level there, is always something new to learn. It is a sport that pushes creativity and strategy.

Jiu-Jitsu practitioners are known to seek healthy habits. Everything, from diet to activity level will see improvement once you begin your jiu-jitsu journey. Everything done off the mat affects performance on the mat, and successful students naturally gravitate toward a healthier way of life.
Also, brotherhood is a Gracie Barra core value. You will join a community of like-minded individuals who uplift and push you to be better. Friends made on the mat lead to great friends off the mat, too.
We are not a fight club. We are a school that seeks to offer the best jiu jitsu in Utah, in order to provide an amazing experience for our members.
