My name is Seidler Rodrigo Ziser. I am a Black Belt 2nd degree with over a decade of experience competing in the major leagues, teaching kids and adults, athletes, and hobbyists. As hard as it can be, my pieces of advice go beyond the team I proudly represent. There are a lot of people from all flags doing an outstanding work to promote BJJ, helping people to be the best version of themselves, making champions, and promoting confidence. I hope it can help you, who are thinking about starting BJJ or barely started. Naturally, you may see some references to my team or routine. The intention is to give examples of what I believe are good ideas and a lot of other teams have identical or similar approaches, simply because it works!

Starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu  is one of the best decisions for yourself and your family. Beyond acquiring self-defense skills and improving overall fitness, you will develop several life skills, including patience, problem-solving, self-awareness, long-term rewards, mindset, trust, and enhanced social skills. These benefits do not come without effort; dedication and trust in your Professor are crucial for developing your skills.

In recent surveys at our Gracie Barra Utah schools (Gracie Barra West Jordan & Gracie Barra Salt Lake City), members shared what they’re most proud of in their lives. The family aspects came out on top, followed closely by BJJ wins like snagging a blue belt or sticking with training. It shows how much BJJ can change your life, even if you’re not a pro athlete. A minimal percentage of the students compete at all, and even less compete on a regular basis in major leagues.

As a beginner or white belt, you might feel a bit lost, frustrated, or even overwhelmed by the abundance of information. It’s natural to want to learn everything about this dynamic martial art as quickly as possible. However, take a moment to breathe and remember that BJJ is a journey, not a sprint. This comprehensive guide covers essential aspects for beginners that impact your progress. Ready to embark on this exciting journey?

Let’s dive in and talk about the very first decision to make: where to train Jiu Jitsu.
