Gracie Barra West Jordan is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school located in West Jordan, Utah, near West Valley, Kearns, Taylorsville, Midvale and South Jordan. We are a Gracie Barra school, one of the largest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu organizations in the world. We offer classes for all ages, from 4-5 years old to seniors, and skill levels, from beginners to advanced.
Our experienced instructors are committed to teaching you BJJ for whatever your goals may be, whether it’s self-defense, competition, or simply getting in shape. Also, BJJ is a great martial art for women who are looking for self-defense for women.

Why Gracie Barra West Jordan?
After operating Gracie Barra School of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (GBSLC) for nearly three years, Professor Rodrigo and Professor Andrea felt it was time to expand their reach and bring Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to new communities in Utah. After some research, they discovered that the neighborhood of West Jordan, filled with families, lacked Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for both children and adults.

Building up Gracie Barra West Jordan
So they reached out to Gracie Barra Headquarters and right away started on construction of the new school, excited about the community of West Jordan to have a Gracie Barra near them. Of course, there were challenges along the way, but with the support of both Professor Rodrigo and Professor Andrea’s families, they got the job done, starting the warm and welcoming family environment from the beginning.

A new BJJ school in Utah
Gracie Barra West Jordan was established in February 2022 with the aim of bringing the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes to West Jordan and surrounding areas, such as South Jordan, Kearns, Taylorsville, Midvale, and others, enhancing their health with the best martial arts for self-defense available nearby.

Red Shield Founders and inauguration
The very first 50 students who signed up received the title of Red Shield Founders. Right after the inauguration, the number of students grew quickly. From the beginning, the school offered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for kids and adults, followed by women’s only BJJ and self-defense classes.
What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is by far the best martial art for self defense purposes. Based on leverage, Jiu-Jitsu teaches grappling techniques to obtain control over an opponent or aggressor. The “Gentle Art” focuses on immobilizing and applying submissions by attacking the joints and neck.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches a wide variety of techniques. Often compared to a game of human chess, BJJ will require you to utilize your entire body as well as your mind to gain dominance over your training partners. No matter your level there, is always something new to learn. It is a sport that pushes creativity and strategy.

Jiu-Jitsu practitioners are known to seek healthy habits. Everything, from diet to activity level will see improvement once you begin your jiu-jitsu journey. Everything done off the mat affects performance on the mat, and successful students naturally gravitate toward a healthier way of life.
Also, brotherhood is a Gracie Barra core value. You will join a community of like-minded individuals who uplift and push you to be better. Friends made on the mat lead to great friends off the mat, too.
