The honest answer

How far is Gracie Barra Riverton from south Sandy?

Sandy is a long city, and where you live in it changes the answer. This page is written for the south end, along the 11400 South corridor, and we would rather be clear about that than pretend the whole city is a short drive.

From that corridor you are about a mile south and two and a half miles west of us, which is closer than the map tends to suggest and runs on surface roads the whole way. Further north the trip grows, and around 10600 South it reaches the edge of what this page is about.

From Sandy

When Riverton is the better stop

Distance is not the only thing that decides where someone trains, and for members who come from Sandy it is usually not the deciding one at all. What tends to matter more is the hour.

A class that lands at the right time on the right evening beats a shorter drive to a class you cannot make. The same goes for people whose week already pulls them west, for work or for a child's other activities. If you are passing through Riverton anyway on a Tuesday, the math changes.

There is also the part of Gracie Barra that people outside it tend not to know. Members train at other Gracie Barra schools all the time, when they travel, when a schedule shifts, or when they simply want more mat time in a week. Turning up at a school that is not your usual one is normal here, not awkward. Every instructor holds Gracie Barra ICP certification and current first aid and emergency response training, and the classes follow the same curriculum used in more than 1,300 Gracie Barra schools worldwide, so nothing you learn is wasted wherever you end up.

The school is led by Professor Seidler Rodrigo Ziser, a third degree black belt. If you want to compare the options around you before deciding, see every community we serve.

From Sandy.

Does Gracie Barra Riverton serve Sandy, UT?

We serve the south end of the city. Along the 11400 South corridor you are about a mile south and two and a half miles west of us, which is a short drive on surface roads. Further north in Sandy the trip grows, and around 10600 South it reaches the edge of the range this page is written for.

How long is the drive from south Sandy to Gracie Barra Riverton?

About twelve minutes from the 11400 South corridor. You are roughly a mile south and two and a half miles west of us, which is closer than the map tends to suggest.

What is the best route from the 11400 South area?

West on 11400 South to Bangerter Highway, then south. Bangerter now runs without a stoplight between Draper and Taylorsville, so once you are on it the drive is uninterrupted. From nearer the freeway, I-15 south one exit to 12300 South and then west is just as quick.

Why do some Sandy members train in Riverton instead?

Usually because of when they train rather than where they live. A class that fits your evening matters more than two miles on a map, and people whose work or family routine already takes them to the west side of the valley often find this the easier stop.

Do you have students from Sandy?

Yes, particularly when our schedule or our side of the valley fits someone's week better. Gracie Barra also has a long tradition of members training at other Gracie Barra schools when they travel or when a schedule shifts, so you will not be a stranger on the mat.
