Gracie Barra online training resources
Two Gracie Barra platforms: one for your technique, one for your education.
Every technique you drill in Riverton has a video version, taught by a certified Gracie Barra instructor, following the same weekly curriculum. Full access to both comes with our Legacy membership.
Two platforms, two jobs
What's the difference?
People mix them up constantly, so here's the short version.
GB Online
GB Institute
What it's for
Developing your technique
Educating yourself about Gracie Barra
What's on it
On-demand technique videos from certified instructors
E-learning courses on values, method, and leadership
Who uses it most
Every student, from day one
Instructors, school staff, and members who want to go deeper
Best known for
The weekly curriculum, mirrored from the mats
The ICP, Gracie Barra's instructor certification
"GB Online is our on-demand Technique and Curriculum from our World-Class Certified Instructors. Go to GB Online to work on your technique development. In contrast, you'll want to go to GB Institute to educate yourself."
Gracie BarraGB Online
GB Online is Gracie Barra's digital technique library. It exists so you can study the same Jiu-Jitsu you're learning on the mat, at home, on your phone, at whatever hour works.
The useful part is the curriculum sync. GB Online is organized around the same weekly curriculum we teach in Riverton, so the technique your instructor covered on Tuesday is the one waiting for you that night. Taught again, slowly, from angles you can pause and rewind.
Missed a class? Catch up on what the room covered. A detail didn't click while drilling? Watch it ten more times without holding anyone up. For beginners it shortens the stretch where everything feels like a blur.
On-demand technique and curriculum, taught by certified Gracie Barra instructors
Follows the same weekly topics taught in Gracie Barra schools worldwide
Four tiers, including a free Welcome Package when you join
How to wear the uniform, how to tie your belt, and how to fall safely
The GB1 New Student Guide: the full Fundamentals curriculum with PDF handouts
Reviewing a technique after class, and catching up on one you missed
GB Institute
GB Institute is the official educational institute of Gracie Barra. GB Online teaches you technique. The Institute teaches you the organization: its values, its philosophy, its method, and how a Gracie Barra school is meant to run.
Its best known program is the ICP, the Instructor Certification Program. Grand Master Carlos Gracie Jr. created it and launched it in 2011, and more than thirty thousand people have taken part in it since. It's why every instructor here teaches the same method, and it has to be renewed every year.
Beyond the ICP there are courses like GB Foundations and Leadership Development. For a student who wants to understand why a technique works and not only how to do it, this is where the reasoning behind the whole curriculum is written down.
It is a genuine advantage for anyone who likes to study the art as well as train it.

On the Legacy plan
Full access to both, plus three CompNet entries.
Our Legacy membership includes everything in the Shield plan and adds three things on top.
Full access to GB Online
The complete technique library, synced to the same weekly curriculum you're training in Riverton. Not a trial tier, the full thing.
Full access to GB Institute
The e-learning platform, including the courses on Gracie Barra's method, philosophy, and leadership.
Three CompNet registrations
Three entries per 12 months of active membership, to Gracie Barra's own competition league. One can be swapped for a kid's birthday party on the mats instead.
Think of these as extra resources. They are worth having: reviewing a movement on video after class is one of the fastest ways to make it stick, and being able to look up a position the night before you drill it changes how much you take from the session. They work alongside your mat time and make it count for more. Compare all three memberships.
Common questions
About the online platforms.
What is GB Online?
Gracie Barra's on-demand technique platform. It holds video instruction from certified instructors and follows the same weekly curriculum taught in Gracie Barra schools worldwide. What you study at home matches what your class covered.
What is GB Institute?
The official educational institute of Gracie Barra. It's an e-learning platform covering the organization's values, philosophy, method, and leadership. It also hosts the ICP, Gracie Barra's Instructor Certification Program.
What's the difference between GB Online and GB Institute?
GB Online is for developing your technique. GB Institute is for educating yourself about Gracie Barra as an organization and its method. Technique versus education, in one line.
How do I get access to both?
Full access to GB Online and GB Institute is included on our Legacy membership, along with three CompNet registrations per 12 months of active membership. See our membership plans for what each one includes. Both platforms also sell their own subscriptions directly.
Can I learn Jiu-Jitsu online without going to class?
No, and we won't pretend otherwise. You can learn what a technique looks like from a video, but you can't learn to do it against someone who is trying to stop you. Online study is how you make your mat time stick, not a replacement for it.
Is GB Online useful for a complete beginner?
Very. The entry level covers the things nobody wants to ask about in person: how to wear the uniform, how to tie your belt, how to fall safely. From there it opens into the full Fundamentals curriculum. GB Online sets its own access levels, so check the platform for what each one currently includes.
What is the ICP?
The Gracie Barra Instructor Certification Program, created by Grand Master Carlos Gracie Jr. and launched in 2011. More than thirty thousand people have taken part in it worldwide. It's why every instructor here teaches the same method, and it has to be renewed annually.
Do I need to be a member to use them?
Not necessarily. Both platforms sell their own subscriptions directly. What the Legacy membership adds is full access to both, included with your training here. If you're not training with us yet, start with a free class and we'll go through the options with you.
Where is Gracie Barra Riverton located?
2936 W 12600 S, Ste 1&2, Riverton, UT 84065, with free parking right in front. Students come in from South Jordan, Draper, Bluffdale, and Sandy.
